ACCESSIBLE HOUSE

Co. DERRY

Having a teenage daughter with additional mobility needs, our clients were in need of a new house, suited to their specific family requirements.

The family were living in accommodation that made their lives very difficult: a house that their daughter could not move easily around, which meant huge compromises in their living arrangements and bad backs for all concerned.

Our priority here was speed.  We liaised with solicitors and Planning, to ensure everybody working on this project was aware of the implications current living conditions were having on the family.

The new house needed to be spacious, have good storage, good thermal comfort (easy to keep warm, and reduced overheating risk). Easy access from car, to house was very important – undercover when it was raining.  Also, a ground floor bedroom was essential, with good access to a sensory garden.

But equally, beautiful house.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL:

“Roisin & Martin made the whole design, planning and construction process effortless. The process from first meeting, to moving into our home was as straight-forward as possible, with all steps, processes & plans well explained. We felt guided and supported by Marshall McCann Architects.

We bought a site with foundations in place; Martin dealt with our solicitor to ensure planning permission was still live – ensuring there was a ‘CLUD’ in place, moving the process forward significantly in pace for us, going the extra mile to ease a potential log-jam with solicitors and planning. Martin was hugely accommodating, knowledgeable and re-assuring when we had any queries or decisions to make – giving us suggestions, helping us make the right decision for us.

During the design process, Roisin talked us through every room, from the start; to understand our lives, how we envisioned each room, giving ideas, asking questions. With a daughter who has accessibility needs, it was particularly important to us that her needs were met, so that she could move with ease around the house, making our lives easier.

We would whole-heartedly recommend Marshall McCann Architects.”
